About Lauren Morton, LCSW

Adolescent and Adult Therapy

Education

I am a licensed psychotherapist located in Carlsbad, California. I have 17 years experience working with children, adolescents, adults, individuals and families. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Art degree in Psychology from Brown University and obtained my Master’s of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. I regularly participate in trainings, consultation and workshops to enhance my knowledge and clinical skills and to ensure I am providing my clients with the most effective treatments.

Experience

In addition to my private counseling practice, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings. While living in New York City, I trained at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, a renowned outpatient mental health treatment facility for children and teens. I also volunteered at the Crime Victims Treatment Center of New York providing crisis counseling to survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence. Upon moving to California, I worked as a therapist at the San Diego Center for Children, Clark Adolescent Treatment Center, a residential facility for severely emotionally disturbed youth. I have provided school based therapy in the San Diego Unified School District and worked as a therapist at Rady Children’s Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry Department.

Therapeutic Approach

In my psychotherapy practice, I use an integrated therapeutic approach in which I combine elements of several different therapeutic modalities. This allows me to provide a personalized approach to therapy rather than adhering to a specific therapeutic orientation or a “one size fits all approach”. Some of the techniques I utilize include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Specializations

I enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, college students and adults to manage depression, anxiety, and other psychological conditions. I also work regularly with those looking to enhance their quality of life or gain insight into their behaviors or relationships. I am certified in EMDR and work those who have PTSD or have experienced traumatic life events.

Lauren is an excellent therapist, bringing knowledge, empathy, and genuine warmth to all her clients. As a colleague of Lauren’s, I have worked side by side with her and have witnessed her incredible passion and dedication for helping others. Her advanced training and extended experience in the specialty areas of adolescents, PTSD and EMDR, and infertility sets her apart in the field.

Lauren has a natural gift of connecting with her clients and creating a safe place for clients to share their stories. Her approach is powerful, her heart is caring, and the change she creates is lasting. I highly recommend Lauren to anyone looking for positive support to improve happiness and quality of life.

Dr. Jodi Stanley

Lauren is a most highly respected colleague of mine. Lauren specializes in the treatment of adolescents, and her approach with teens and their parents is warm, direct, clinically sound, and above all, highly ethical. As such, she is my “go to” therapist for peer consultations. I can always count on her for a thoughtful, well informed clinical response with a welcome injection of humor! I have also had the unique pleasure of sharing clinical cases with her and I find her to be exceptionally communicative and collaborative!
