FAMILY THERAPY

“Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.” – Michael J. Fox

WHAT IS FAMILY THERAPY?

Family therapy helps families or individuals within a family improve their interactions, resolve conflict, and communicate more effectively. Family therapy aims to increase understanding, enhance connectedness, and to problem solve the unique challenges that exist for each family.

HOW CAN FAMILY THERAPY HELP?

Family therapy can be beneficial for families experiencing conflict between members and for families coping with the emotional, behavioral, or addiction issues of a family member. By focusing on patterns of interaction between members and emphasizing boundaries, healthy communication, conflict resolution, and empathic support, families can learn to more effectively interact with one another and create a more peaceful home environment.

WHAT ISSUES ARE ADDRESSED IN FAMILY THERAPY?

Family problems will challenge nearly every family at some point.  Some of the more commonly addressed issues in family therapy include:

  • Child and adolescent behavioral issues
  • Communication problems
  • Frequent arguing
  • Grief and Loss
  • Mental health issues
  • Parent-child relationship concerns
  • Separation, divorce or blended family adjustments
  • Sibling conflict
  • Substance Abuse
